SmartBrief, Inc is looking for account executives to generate advertising/sponsorship
revenue in e-mail news service publications.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Meet target revenue goals and develop new business through a consultative sales approach.
  • Meet with corporate marketing directors and their advertising agencies to develop strategic, online marketing programs for their companies.
  • Drive the marketing and revenue strategies for a set of SmartBrief's targeted publications.
  • Develop new revenue-generating products/services through substance-driven conversations with prospects and clients.

 

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 2+ years experience in sales of advertising, media, consulting services or knowledge management products.

Client Services Manager

 

As part of SmartBrief's Advertising Operations team, the Client Services Manager works to ensure the success of each client advertising campaign in SmartBrief and has the lead responsibility for managing the post-sale relationship with the advertising client. S/he provides day-to-day, front line contact with clients to ensure superior service and campaign satisfaction. The Client Services Manager collaborates with the sales department to anticipate client needs, innovate, and problem solve. This position allows for flex-time and telecommuting arrangements.

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • 5+ years of related work experience. Online advertising/ media company or creative agency/publicity firm background strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of writing/copyedit experience preferred.
  • Strong academic achievement including bachelor's degree in related discipline.

Editorial Assistant

 

SmartBrief’s editorial assistant will offer administrative support to the employees of the editorial department to help create daily online business and consumer news e-mail publications in specific industries. This is a learning position, with the expectation that an editorial assistant will gain knowledge about SmartBrief as well as the industry expertise and writing style to become an associate editor.

The position of editorial assistant involves clerical functions incidental to editorial activities (time sheets, expense reports, etc.) and involvement with launches, with a heavy focus on research and preparation for editors. The editorial assistant will be responsible for data collection and interpretation, and will provide reports to editors about brief health.

SmartBrief editorial assistants will learn to write in SmartBrief's style and tone. The editorial assistant will work with all editors to improve efficiencies in brief launches and to provide support when staff members are out. The editorial assistant will assist editors in their daily duties, and must respond to editors' requests quickly and professionally. The editorial assistant also must assist in preparations for new-brief launches within the industry group by doing research, planning coverage and attending meetings with new partners.

 

Job Duties:

  • Assist editors.
  • Preparation for new-brief launches.
  • Utilization of social media (tweeting for editors, etc.).
  • Fill in when freelancers or editors are out.
  • Maintenance of and contribution to existing and future blogs.
  • Collaborate on and contribute to Special Reports and Year-End Reports.
  • Respond to reader comments and suggestions.
  • Collect, organize and take responsibility for department time sheets and work with HR to improve time sheet process and make sure freelancers are paid.
  • Assist director of editorial operations and senior editors as needed for projects, including but not limited to meeting preparation, expense-report collection and categorization of resumes for department.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects as needed.
  • Arrange for and coordinate schedules, appointments, projects, conferences and major events.
  • Meet deadlines as given and manage multiple deadlines or projects as needed.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to extract and compile a range of data from written sources, from individuals by asking questions or from one or several given databases.
  • Limited interpretation of data.
  • Ability to merge, edit and manipulate data to generate reports.
  • Facility for using online publishing tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven record of taking initiative, sharing responsibilities and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Health Care Editor

 

SmartBrief is seeking a full-time editor to help create daily online business and consumer news e-mail publications in the health industry. Applicant must have two to five years of experience writing or editing health news. If you love to edit material and shape content, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-intensive work environment, you'll fit right in. This position includes writing as well as editing duties, with a heavy focus on editing. Other job duties include cultivating industry expertise and client relationship management. This position is located in SmartBrief's Washington, D.C., office.


Selected applicants will be asked to complete a timed writing and editing test.


Job Duties:

  • Edit summaries for inclusion in SmartBrief's health newsletters for grammar, style and tone for a particular audience.
  • Manage off-site freelancers.
  • Use online publishing tools to create e-mail newsletters and other content.
  • Manage relationships with associations, corporations and other business clients as well as content providers.
  • Respond to reader comments and suggestions.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects as needed.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven writing and editing skills. Alternative: Three to five years of experience in a communications or research role with a news organization, consulting firm, trade association or other relevant group.

QA-Daily Operations Manager

 

Job Summary:


The QA-Daily Operations Manager will be involved in all aspects of the technology department's daily operations, including managing and triaging our bug queues, working with the development staff to deploy and improve testing methodologies, and performing educational outreach to the rest of the company. The primary goals will be to increase accountability and visibility into our daily operations, and to perform all intake processing of new issues and QA of all code. Hand-testing code will be required, along with maintenance of the build, Jira and documentation of code releases.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • QA all code (currently all hand-tested)
  • Manage weekly build
  • Oversee intake and triage of all new issues
  • Manage and maintain critical infrastructure components: Jira, CVS, build scripts, documentation, QA cluster, test data sources, etc.
  • Deploy automated testing, and be an evangelist and educator among your colleagues for such methodologies

 Requirements/Experience:

  •  3+ years experience with QA in the software-development field
  •  Excellent knowledge of and experience with automated testing and deploying it within the enterprise
  •  End-to-end experience with QA process and procedures
  •  Experience with Jira or similar workflow-based issue-tracking system
  •  Working knowledge of version control systems (CVS, SVN, etc.)
  •  Web application testing
  •  Hand-testing code
  •  Familiarity with Linux systems
  •  Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript familiarity a plus
