SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Are you planning on traveling for any major HR or industry-specific conferences this year?

  • We aren’t attending any events this year, 37%
  • We are only going to local events this year, 31%
  • We are traveling to multiple events this year, 22%
  • We are traveling to a single event this year, 10%

Two-thirds of people aren’t traveling at all this year, and more than a third are not even attending local events. It seems as though businesses are still being cautious with their travel spending until there is more certainty that business will be picking up. If there is a silver lining for those planning large events, it looks as though one in five are choosing to go to multiple events.
