However, every week, hundreds of fascinating food, beverage and restaurant stories don’t make the cut. Here are a few of my favorite stories from the past week that didn’t make the newsletter.
- An education on credit card skimming. Fast Casual explores a problem more restaurants are facing than ever before: skimming fraud. This often is an in-house problem, with employees stealing customer credit card information via an electronic device.
- The best food and wine apps. The Los Angeles Times’ S. Irene Virbila discusses her favorite food and wine apps for iPhones and Droids, including Ruhlman Enterprises’ Ratio, which calculates ingredient proportions, Convertbot, which converts measurements, and Pocket C0cktails, which offers hundreds of cocktail recipes.
- Historical restaurants across America. An article originally published in Forbes Traveler explores some of the most historically significant restaurants in the U.S., including “21” Club in New York City, Bistro at Maison de Ville in New Orleans, and Grand Hotel, on Mackinac Island, Mich.
