Dunkin’ reveals which professions run on coffee

This post is by SmartBrief’s Doris Nhan.

Food preparers are among those Americans who say they need coffee the most. According to a new survey, conducted by Dunkin’ Donuts and, 32% of workers say they need coffee to get through the workday. It goes up to 43% for workers who report they’re less productive sans coffee. National Coffee Day, to be celebrated Wednesday, will pay homage to those who keep the American coffee business booming.

Health care workers — nurses and physicians — top the list of professions that need coffee the most. Also on the list: hotel workers, sales representatives, engineers, teachers and public-relations professionals.

Other findings:

  • Age isn’t just a number. Younger workers, ages 18 to 24, say they need coffee. In fact, 40% of this age group admit they can’t concentrate as well without it.
  • Please, sir, I want some more. Thirty-seven percent say they drink two or more cups during a workday.
  • Patting your own back. For a job well done, 24% of workers ages 18 to 34 say they use coffee as the go-to treat.
