The good old days are always better. Less change, idyllic and with the implication of moral superiority.

Well, when it comes to work, the good old days are gone. They may have been superior, but that doesn’t offer today’s workforce much consolation. What we have now is upheaval and uncertainty: What does it mean to have a job? What is an employee? What jobs will be available in the future, for any of us? Where will economic opportunity and growth come from? When do the robots get us?

These are heady questions, but they are also opportunities. This isn’t to sugarcoat the situation. As leaders and employees, we can’t stop change. We will have to work hard, find new ways of working and innovating, and then get ready to repeat the process, again and again. But unlike in the good old days, if you don’t like the way something is being done, or you have an idea to radically alter the landscape, now’s as good a time as any to take your shot.

Today we launch SmartReport on Leadership, a new digital magazine designed to catch you up on all the disruptions and shifts in the workplace. Packed with stories from peer leaders, it will give you some guidance on how to lead yourself, your co-workers and your organizations — not just to survive these changes, but to capitalize on them. The real work, of course, is up to you. We’re here to inform and then give you a nudge.

Let us know what you think of our new magazine and what you would like to see in future issues. Enjoy!
