Leadership

SmartPulse — our weekly nonscientific reader poll in SmartBrief on Leadership — tracks feedback from more than 160,000 business leaders. We run the poll question each Tuesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Have you resolved to lead differently in 2012?

  • Absolutely. I’ve made many resolutions to change my leadership: 8.28%
  • Somewhat. I’ve made a few big, focused leadership resolutions: 29.89%
  • A little. I’ve made some small resolutions for how I’ll lead differently: 44.6%
  • Not at all. I’m going to keep going with the way I do things now: 17.24%

Same old, same old: More than 60% of you aren’t planning on changing much of anything. Unless last year was an incredible year for you, I implore you to reconsider resolving to lead differently. Insanity is continuing to do the same thing but expecting different results. A big part of your growth as a leader is predicated on change and taking on new challenges. I encourage you to set big goals for yourself in terms of your personal development to become a better leader than you are today. None of us are ever done growing. Don’t let inertia and habit prevent you from getting to the next level.
