SmartPulse — our weekly nonscientific reader poll in SmartBrief on Small Business — tracks feedback from small-business owners. We run the poll question each Thursday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Do you trust applications on your smartphone?

  • Yes, selectively: 41.55%
  • I don’t even have a smartphone: 25.12%
  • No, but I still use them: 15.94%
  • No, and I don’t use them: 11.11%
  • Yes, totally: 6.28%

Apps are a major feature to smartphones, so it goes without saying that we need to have confidence in the ones we’re downloading.  The good news is we can check out user reviews prior to downloading.  This can tell us if a developer is keeping their app up-to-date, if there are any bugs we need to be aware of and how user friendly the functionality appears to be.  Also, some of the best apps I’ve found have been by asking friends and colleagues for recommendations.
