HR has limited involvement in workplace design

SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: How much involvement does your HR department have in the planning of office and work spaces?

  • HR is involved little, if at all, 68%
  • HR is consulted but not heavily involved, 18%
  • HR has heavy involvement, 9%
  • HR is fully responsible for it, 4%

I’m not surprised that HR is heavily involved or fully responsible in only 13% of  cases. If you have a specialist in your organization who deals with this sort of thing, it may not be a big deal. Still, it seems like something HR should at least have a say in — workplace designs is often a top employee relations issues.
