SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Do you have a formal onboarding process?

  • Yes — it’s just the basics, 42%
  • Yes — it’s immersive, 27%
  • No, 19%
  • For some employees, but not all, 12%

I love hearing stories about terrible onboarding processes. It’s like hearing terrible first date stories. It’s a situation where both parties are trying to put their best foot forward and one just fails miserably. I’m happy to see that over two-thirds have some sort of universal onboarding process. But is it good?

Do you have a great onboarding horror story to share?
