SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Does your company provide health insurance benefits for retirees?

  • No, 70%
  • Yes, for an unlimited amount of time, 19%
  • Yes, for a fixed period of time, 10%

Who still offers retiree health care? The government is likely a large portion of the yes responses but certainly those folks in the larger industries that used to have defined benefits plans like pensions are part of it as well. And since retirees are automatically covered under government run health care, those in HR have to wonder if government run health care for all will see the same results eventually.
