SmartBrief on Small Business readers react to U.S. credit rating downgrade

SmartPulse — our weekly nonscientific reader poll in SmartBrief on Small Business — tracks feedback from small-business owners. We run the poll question each Thursday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Has the S&P decision to downgrade the U.S. credit rating affected your business?

  • No — 68.89%
  • Yes, in a negative way — 28.89%
  • Yes, in a positive way — 2.22%

It’s good to know that the majority of businesses have not been negatively affected by the nation’s credit downgrade.  But the fact that nearly 30% have should send the message that our country’s financial situation is cause for concern.

While each of us is entitled to our respective political opinions, one thing is for certain — it’s important to pay attention to what’s happening in government and in the financial markets.  Know the issues and develop your own opinions.
