SmartBrief is partnering with Big Think to create a weekly video spotlight in SmartBrief on Leadership called “VIP Corner: Video Insights Powered by Big Think.” This week, we’re featuring presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney recalls the leaders who shaped his own leadership philosophy — starting with his mom and dad, and ending with God.

His father, George Romney, was a business and political leader, and young Mitt watched and took notes as he himself grew up and took over the family trade.

The former Massachusetts governor also seeks leadership inspiration from past U.S. presidents.

“Ronald Reagan — as time has gone on, he has gotten smarter and smarter, you know that? His brand of optimism, his recognition that to overcome challenges, you fight to strengthen America — that’s something … [that] I have very much adopted in my own political philosophy.”
