As we enter Q3, how is your year going?

SmartPulse — our weekly nonscientific reader poll in SmartBrief on Leadership — tracks feedback from more than 210,000 business leaders. We run the poll question each week in our e-newsletter.

As we enter Q3, how is your year going?

  • Much better than expected.: 8%
  • Better than expected.: 21%
  • As expected:  34%
  • Worse than expected: 31%
  • Much worse than expected: 7%

An Uphill Climb. Many of you are doing as well as or worse than expected at the halfway mark of the year. The question leaders need to answer is what actions are you taking now to get the rest of the year on track? There are always unforeseen challenges. The measure of a good leader is how quickly you recognize those issues and how effectively you put contingency plans in place to rectify them. Hoping things will improve isn’t a winning strategy. Take a day with your team to assess what’s not working, what changes you need to react to, and create a plan for catching up for the second half of the year. While a day can be costly, not investing a day can cost you even more.
