This week’s top food and beverage story stars Trader Joe’s staffers and customers, who named their 50 favorite items the quirky retailer sells including Brewed Ginger Beer and Whole Milk Mango Kefir. The results were compiled from a survey taken as Trader Joe’s celebrates its 50th birthday this year.

Other food retail stories also made the list this week, including a look at Kroger’s plan to counter competition, an examination of Walmart’s grocery market share and a peek inside Target’s store remodeling strategy.

Food brand acquisitions also proved popular, including B&G Foods’ $162.5 million deal to acquire cookie brand SnackWell’s and granola line Back to Nature from Mondelez International and Brynwood Partners, an acquisition B&G expects will give it more leverage with natural food retailers.

Restaurants made the list this week as well, as readers paid attention to a turnaround plan at Ruby Tuesday that includes a streamlined menu and a mobile app rollout, as well as Beef O’Brady’so plan to move away from its roots as an Irish pub.
