School leaders in Montgomery County, Md., have reinstated traditional letter grades for students in second through fifth grade following concerns its previous approach was vague and uninformative. Students will receive A-F letter grades, rather than ES (exceptional), P (proficient), I (in progress) and N (not-yet-making progress).

Of the 45 states and the District of Columbia that adopted the Common Core State Standards, eight have repealed them and 21 have made or are making mostly minor changes to the standards.
