Top 10: Klondike Donuts, PepsiCo goes DTC, restaurants start to reopen

SmartBrief’s food-and-beverage readers seemed to crave some non-COVID content this week, as news of new snack products from Unilever, Yasso and J.M. Smucker topped the Top 10 most-clicked list. Unilever debuted doughnut-shaped Klondike bars in Frosted Strawberry, Triple Chocolate and Boston Cream flavors. Yasso’s new Greek yogurt bars come dipped in chocolate and quinoa crunch and Smucker expanded its Uncrustables line.

Plans for new products from B&G Foods under its Green Giant and Ortega brands also resonated with readers this week, as did PepsiCo’s launch of e-commerce sites dubbed Snacks.com and PantryShop.com that sell Frito Lay snacks and PepsiCo products directly to consumers with the promise of two-day delivery on most orders.

The pandemic still colored some of the other popular stories this week, especially when it came to restaurants. Buffalo Wild Wings unveiled a new concept dubbed Buffalo Wild Wings GO that is tailored to off-premise dining, with a walk-up counter and heated lockers where order-ahead customers will pick up their meals.

New rules in Washington state will require restaurants there to keep a log of all guests for 30 days, including their contact information, to help with contact tracing if it turns out later that there was a possible exposure to the coronavirus. And laws in six more states allowed restaurants to start reopening their dining rooms this week, provided they put precautions in place to protect customers and staff.
