Why employees say Radio Flyer is a great workplace

I am fascinated by senior leaders who love their people! Such leaders create purposeful, positive, productive work cultures. This example rolls up in a little red wagon.

Radio Flyer is a 103-year-old Chicago-based manufacturer of children’s red wagons, tricycles, scooters, and ride-ons.

Employees, known as Flyers, have rated Radio Flyer as one of the top companies to work for with a perfect 5.0 score on Glassdoor’s five-point scale. Glassdoor shows 100% of Flyers approve of the CEO. 99% of employees would recommend Radio Flyer as a good place to work. These ratings earn the company recognition on Glassdoor’s best companies to work for list in 2020.

The company has also earned Great Place to Work certification this year. Again, 100% of employees rated Radio Flyer a great place to work on that platform’s Trust Index.

Flyers’ comments on Glassdoor emphasize the company’s investment in employees’ growth and well-being, how transparent senior leaders are with employees, how fun the work environment is, and more.

One reviewer said, “Our Chief Wagon Officer [Robert Pasin, the founder’s grandson] and the senior leadership team lead by example … they’ve created a culture that is supportive, positive, and FUN.”

Another reviewer said, “The thing I love most about my job is the freedom to use my creativity to solve complex problems and invent new products that delight families.”

Another reviewer posted advice to management, saying, “The approach you have taken in light of COVID to care for your employees has been awesome. Through transparency and increased communication, you have made me feel secure in my job and valued in the work I do. Thank you, THANK YOU!”

In response, Pasin expressed appreciation for the thanks. He closed with, “I look forward to the day we can all return to the office and see each other.”

This company’s healthy work culture did not happen by default. It happened entirely by design. In today’s three-minute episode of my Culture Leadership Charge video series for SmartBrief, I celebrate the clearly stated mission and values of Radio Flyer.

More importantly, senior leaders inspire consistent demonstration of those behaviors by every Flyer. Consistent, respectful treatment, with senior leaders serving their team members kindly in every interaction, creates calm, credibility and contribution.
