CPG companies made news that resonated with SmartBrief’s food-and-beverage readers this week, starting with the most-read story on the first new look for Campbell’s Soup labels in half a century. The familiar red-and-white remains on the modernized labels, which boast an updated script and images of ingredients, and the company marked the change with the sale of 100 nonfungible tokens that raised funds for Feeding America.

An update on Unilever’s plans to spin off some of its tea brands including Tazo and T2 also rated with readers, as did the launch of new protein bars from General Mills and plans by Mondelez to provide consumers with information to help them snack more healthfully.

Grocery stories also got readers’ attention this week. Walmart announced an expansion of its program that pays college tuition for employees enrolled in any of 10 colleges and universities it partners with. The retailer dropped a requirement that participating employees pay $1 per day and announced it will now also cover the cost of books, as part of an initiative that will invest $1 billion on employee education and training over the next half decade.

Microfulfillment centers created by Instacart and SpartanNash designed to feed still-growing demand for online grocery delivery also made this week’s Top 10 list.

McDonald’s promotion of Manu Steijaert to the new role of chief customer officer was this week’s most-read restaurant story. Steijaert will head the newly formed customer experience team, which will bring together four divisions focused on future growth at the chain.
